SIR SAMUEL BAKER MONUMENT MASINDI

Sir Samuel Baker, the British explorer, met Omukama (King) Kabalega of the Bunyoro Kingdom in what is now Uganda. This historic meeting took place at the Masindi Port on Lake Albert in 1872. The meeting was significant in the context of the exploration and colonial history of East Africa.

This place is historical because its where Sir Samuel Baker met the Omukama Kabalega in a battle field which led to a civial war called ”nyangiire rebellion”. History indicates that the Kabalega after realizing that Sir Samuel Baker wanted to annex Bunyoro as part of the British Protectorate, he fought sir Samuel Baker off.
