The Equator in Uganda
Uganda is one of the few countries in the world that is crossed by the Equator;the imaginary line that divides Earth into the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.
Main Equator crossing points
Uganda Equator Line (Kayabwe)
- Located along the Kampala–Masaka road (about 1–1.5 hours from Kampala)
- The most popular and developed Equator site
- Has monuments, shops, restaurants, and photo spots
Uganda Equator Crossing (Queen Elizabeth National Park)
- Inside the national park
- Much more natural and less crowded
- Great if you’re already on a safari
What you can do at the Equator
Stand in both hemispheres at once, Watch the famous water experiment (shows how water drains differently north vs south)
You can also buy souvenirs & crafts and relax at nearby cafés and take photos
Fun facts
The Equator gets almost equal day and night all year and temperatures are generally warm year-round
