Kazinga Channel

The Kazinga Channel is a famous natural waterway in western Uganda, located inside Queen Elizabeth National Park.

What it is

A 32–40 km long channel that connects Lake George to Lake Edward

Part of the African Great Lakes system

One of the most important features of the national park

Why it’s famous

It has one of the highest concentrations of hippos in the world

Also home to:

Nile crocodiles

Elephants, buffaloes, antelopes

Over 100 bird species (pelicans, storks, kingfishers, etc.)

Tourism highlight

  • The boat cruise on Kazinga Channel is one of Uganda’s top safari experiences
  • You get very close views of animals drinking and bathing along the shores

 Location

  • Found in southwestern Uganda, near Katunguru
  • About 6–7 hours’ drive from Kampala

In short: Kazinga Channel is one of the best places in Uganda to see wildlife up close, especially during a boat safari.
