THE WEATHER AND CLIMATE SEASONS IN UGANDA
Many people mention climate and weather as though they were the same. Fast things forward, let’s define Climate; it is the average weather over an extended period of time while as weather is a condition that happens at a particular time. Knowing a destination’s future weather on any given day is impossible but knowing something about a destination’s climate is very important for the effective travel itineraries. Uganda generally experiences a tropical climate with warm temperatures and rainy days. Its’ location in the tropics and across the equator results in the weather and seasonal changes.
Travelers often mention climate as one of the most important reasons for selecting one destination over another. Uganda is located along the equator thus receiving direct sunshine and no winter or summer. If Uganda is one of the destinations on your list, congratulations to you. The Dry season in Uganda
Basically, the country has two dry seasons; the long dry season and the short dry season. The long dry season is from June to August in the southern part of Uganda. June and July are the driest months in the south but it can still rain sometimes.
The short dry season is from December, January and February. During these months the south has less rainfall but still more when compared to June and July. It is slightly warmer with daytime temperatures of about 28 C . The north has a clear dry season with little rain. Activities done in the dry season are mainly the gorilla trekking or chimpanzee trekking, game drives and hiking. Even in the dry season you can still see the magnificent beauty of Uganda, the Scenery Vegetation, wildlife and the people with their cultures.
For all travelers (tourists) planning to visit Uganda, the dry season is the season which is ideal and advisable to make a trip to Uganda for safaris because there is little rain or no rain that can cause interruption in activities done.
A list of essential items one should or must carry during the dry season include insect or mosquito repellent because mosquitoes are most rampant during the dry season due to the stagnant water where mosquitoes breed and sunscreen plus light clothes.
The Wet season in Uganda has two seasons; the long wet season and the short wet season. The long wet season is experienced from March to May. In this season we experience a lot of rains throughout the country. Uganda receives 1500mm to 2500mm of rainfall annually. Uganda lies within a relatively humid equatorial climate zones, and the moving winds, the lakes and the rivers cause a large difference in rainfall patterns the country. It will be colder in the gorillas’ parks at high altitudes and warmer in the north. The rain can make travel quite hectic since roads, forest trails for trekking and hiking trails are hard to access because of the mud.
The short wet season in September and November, rain is usually at night and early morning. It is advisable to dress up in warm clothes with boots. Have long –sleeved shirts and trousers to protect you from mosquito and the other insect bites.
